Is this new research true? Should Christians be intimidated by these findings? The answer to both questions is a resounding NO. Starting this Sunday night, we will begin a study of Conspiracies and the Cross, by Timothy Paul Jones (no relation). In this study, we will examine the most popular theories about Jesus and see how they stand up under honest scrutiny. Contrary to what some scholars tell us, archaeological and historical evidence is still overwhelmingly on the side of the New Testament.
There is no charge for participating in this course, nor will you need to purchase a textbook or workbook. However, I do highly recommend that you obtain a copy of Conspiracies and the Cross to help you in this study. The book is very readable, and he explains things in simple terms that the average layman (or the average preacher, for that matter) can understand. You can purchase the book through Lifeway or Christian Book Distributors, and it is probably also available at Amazon.
The study will begin this Sunday night at 7:00, and will probably continue through the summer. I hope all of you will attend.
