This past week, our President expressed support for same-sex marriage. Why do so many Christians oppose the legalization of this practice? First, there is the moral aspect of it. The Bible clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination. Down through history, marriage has been defined as a union between a man and a woman. Jesus Himself noted this in Mark 10:6. To put it simply, "same-sex marriage" is a contradiction in terms.
Furthermore, we must remember that the family, like civil government, is a basic building block of any society. If people were allowed to define government any way they chose, we would have no government at all. Likewise, if people are free to define family in any way they choose, then there really is no such thing as the family. We've seen the chaos that has broken out in society as families have been destroyed. The legalization of same-sex marriage will only add to the confusion.
Does God love homosexuals? Yes. Should Christians love homosexuals? Yes. However, if we truly love our God and our country, we must resist these attempts to re-define marriage. Let us pray that God will touch the hearts of the American people and show them the error of their ways. Above all, let us pray for a genuine spiritual awakening. If our country continues in its current path, it will not survive.
