Who We Are

History

During the period of 1947-49, a small group of Christians began meeting in homes in Farmville. This group grew quickly and began using a small former church in the Worsham community. Plans were made to construct a church which was built on the present site on land owned by the Chernault family, and was named Worsham Baptist Church in February 1950. The original building was constructed by the men of the church and the furnishings were handmade or donated by the families of the church. The present building was completed in August 1952. The land for the cemetery was purchased in September 1952. There were 96 original charter members of Worsham Baptist Church, and the first Pastor was Rev. Ralph Culler.

The church has always had a full program of activities including Sunday School classes for all ages, Sunday morning and evening worship services, and Wednesday Prayer Services, Music Program, activities for the youth and children. The church joined the Southside Association and became a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Later the church became a member of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. Additional Sunday School rooms were added in the period 1960-1961 by a local private school which used them as temporary school rooms, resulting in more Sunday School rooms given to the church. The Family Life Center was built during the early 2000s.
